A yellow-eyed cat – a pantoum

A plaintive meow from the bushes
revealed a yellow-eyed cat.
She’d lost her gold-handled brushes
under a dirty gray mat.

Revealing a yellow-eyed cat,
her claws extended and sharp.
Under a dirty gray mat,
it smelled of ocean and carp.

Her claws extended and sharp
as she punctured the flesh of my hand.
It smelled of ocean and carp
like the other members of my band.

She punctured the flesh of my hand
defending her glory and honor.
Like the other members of my band,
I was unamused at her candor.

Defending her glory and honor,
I dropped her right there on the sidewalk.
I was unamused at her candor.
Her long hair was tangled in locks.

I dropped her right there on the sidewalk–
a plaintive meow from the bushes.
Her long hair was tangled in locks
’cause she’d lost her gold-handled brushes.
