When I was in elementary school, my birthday was about two weeks before school started. We would pack up a lunch, drive to the mountains, eat, and dabble our toes in a cool stream. The stream was hard to find except for locals. The reason we went there was because it had the most delicious rainbow trout I had ever tasted. We would take our sweaters because it was cool up there. A day in the sun near water was heavenly.
Nowadays the children are in school a week before my birthday. It is strange to feel the heat on my skin and NOT hear the yells of children as they run and play in the apartment complex.

The story has elements of the West, paranormal, and mystery.
