Beneath my sky

Beneath my sky
the grass’ roots
pierce the thirsty earth
tops yellow and brown
the trees the same

Beneath my sky
squirrels and rabbits
slip into dark holes
and stay cool
in the heat of the day

Beneath my sky
hawks and ravens
fly to the mountains
catching thermals
hunt for food

The desert is a harsh place
of sun and sky and heat
Beneath my sky
we scurry from AC to AC
and forget to watch the skies
